I was thirteen years old, I attended a youth conference in Mobile and understood the Gospel for the first time. I never really understood my need for Jesus until I saw how sinful I really was and my need for the grace of God in my life. I had been to church growing up and I assumed that being good and trying to do the right things was enough to get to heaven…

At 13 God opened my eyes and showed me that salvation is not an attainable goal by my efforts or abilities because I was sinful to the core of my being. After surrendering control of my life to God, He has been faithful to place people in my life to teach me how to study God’s Word, how to share my faith, how to pray, and the importance of Biblical fellowship.

I learned quickly that a relationship with God is not merely about getting a ticket to get to heaven but it is for the here and now. The benefit of surrendering control of my life to God now is that I get the privilege of walking with Him for the rest of my earthly life…the byproduct is that I get to spend eternity in heaven with Him… “What good is it for a man to gain the whole world and yet forfeit his soul…”
